kentfield mid century
This renovation and modest addition thoughtfully refreshed a classic Mid-Century residence originally designed by renowned Bay Area architect Clarence Mayhew. While the home’s original structure and character remained sound, the spaces were reimagined to better support contemporary living. Set within a striking landscape with expansive views of Mount Tamalpais, the project introduced a reworked landscape design that enhances the entry courtyard and outdoor living areas, allowing the home to fully engage with its gently sloping site. An expanded kitchen and bar were introduced, along with a new terrace featuring built-in seating and a BBQ, extending the living space outward to embrace the surrounding garden. A key transformation involved the relocation and reconfiguration of the primary bedroom suite. The primary bath opens onto a private garden courtyard with a spa and outdoor shower, creating a secluded garden environment that transforms the bedroom into a peaceful retreat. The overall project also includes an ADU discreetly nestled into the hillside, maximizing the use of the site while providing a quiet and serene guest residence.
