Floating within a backyard of Norway Spruce, a 130-square-foot modern tree house in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania provides a welcoming retreat for children of all ages. A cedar box skewed on a rectangular platform of steel sits eight feet above the ground. Two barn doors and a trap door in the floor lead to steel and wooden ladders, offering countless means of entry and escape. Shade over the exterior space is provided by a sail canopy that reflects the angularity of the playhouse design and Plexiglas skylights admit light to the interior. A hundred foot long zipline takes off from the backside of the structure passing thru the Spruce trees to a grassy landing across the backyard. Beyond creating an enticing environment for children, the sculptural qualities of the design and its placement amidst the trees provide a strong focal point from the home's interior.
